Colleen McCallum-Bonar, PhD
She understands that students come from a variety of cultures and perspectives, with diverse understandings of the role of the teacher, as well as different ideas about how learning works. She knows that there is no single approach to learning.
As an educator, Colleen sees it as a part of her responsibility to help foster students’ competence and confidence. She believes that an environment in which students feel safe, respected, and comfortable expressing themselves and their ideas makes for a more meaningful learning experience.
Colleen received her education at The Ohio State University with a Master’s and a Doctorate Degree in Germanic Languages and Literatures, with a specialization in Yiddish and Ashkenazic Studies. She also holds a Bachelor’s in Language from the University of California, Riverside. Her interest in Cultural Studies and Sociolinguistics has allowed her the opportunity to take part in and contribute to cross-cultural and multidisciplinary collaborative projects.
She and her husband Jon are active foster parents and have lived in the Santa Clarita Valley for 12 years.
Jon Bonar
Jon believes in lifelong learning. His philosophy is that learning, either formally through school or informally through hobbies and other interests, benefits one’s health, relationships, and job skills. Our education and skills are one of the things that makes each one of us unique, and only by having new experiences can we continue to grow as individuals.
Jon supports Colleen to make sure the best academic support is provided to each student. There are a lot of details that need to be managed to make sure the process runs smoothly for each family.
Jon is also an active foster parent along with his wife Colleen.
